![]() ![]() But seriously, folks, I'm a lifelong admirer of this witty, lavish, spellbinding spoof of Technicolor-and-Tights swashbucklery, and so naturally I've been waiting for this release since I bought my first Blu Ray player. It's Danny Kaye's finest hour, and how can you beat the supporting cast of Basil Rathbone, Glynis Johns, Angela Lansbury, Cecil Parker, and Mildred Natwick.ĭeem I this long-overdue Blu Ray release of a comic classic worthy of purchasing? Yea, verily, yea. I don't think it's quite up there to The Ten Commandments or White Christmas, as the gentleman who did those, who's no longer at Paramount, was much better at his job than the people who are doing it now. Otherwise, it's a gorgeous transfer, maybe the best of these newer Paramount things. The main titles are opticals on top of opticals - many layers involved so of course it's many generations away from the production photography. Everyone is complaining about the main titles not looking as good - well, duh. ![]() The color is perfect and look just like the dye transfer Technicolor prints did. This new 4K transfer is pretty superb straight down the line. And this new Blu-ray is the perfect way to do it. If you've never seen it, shame on you and you need to do something about that right now. You probably know that The Court Jester is an all-time comedy masterpiece, so no need to recap that. Lord, when will Amazon learn not to dump all these reviews together. ![]()
